Nets G Jarvis Hayes returned to the Nets lineup Sunday after missing two games with a strained calf muscle. Hayes played 13 minutes, and scored zero points on 0 of 4 shooting. He recorded a block, two boards, and an assist.

Cavaliers center Shaquille O’Neal will undergo surgery on Monday to repair his injured right thumb. O’Neal was examined Sunday by Dr. Thomas Graham at the National Hand Center in Baltimore. Lakers SF Ron Artest saw an increase in scoring on Sunday in a win over Denver with 17 points. Artest, who averages 11.5 PPG on the year, shot 6 for 13 from the field and nailed 4 of 7 from 3-point range. He added four assists, four rebound and six steals.

Los Angeles PF Pau Gasol recorded a double-double for the second straight game and third time in his last four on Sunday against Denver. Gasol scored 15 points on 6 of 14 shooting and added 14 rebounds. He blocked a shot as well.

Lakers PF Lamar Odom had a big game off the bench on Sunday to help beat the Nuggets. Odom had a double-double as he scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. He added four steals and a block. Odom also hit a 3-pointer for the sixth straight game.

Shooting guard Courtney Lee missed the New Jersey Nets’ game with the Washington Wizards on Sunday because of a sprained left ankle. Lee hurt the ankle on Saturday in a win against the Boston Celtics.
